The view of higher education differs vastly depending on culture, country, family values or the time someone is living. Both my parents studied at a university, that’s where they actually met. But by the early 90s of the 20th century I was rather advised not to pursue further higher education and I left high school after graduating from grade 10.
With my curiosity prevaling and a shift in views some 8 years later I enrolled at my first university. Only on a probatioanory role, since I don’t have a high school diploma that would normally allow people to join a university.

The course I enscribe is called Diplom-Physik. The Bologna process has not started yet, so there is no Bachelor and Masters program in Germany yet. Later my Diploma (regular study time of 5 years) will be equaled to a masters degree.
